Mia
Survivor
Mia is a mental health advocate, social worker, and digital creator who discusses the topics of loneliness, vulnerability, mental health, and therapy abuse on social media. She has built an online community that is engaged, supportive, and committed to uplifting and supporting each other through their diverse walks of life.
Mia was raised by a supportive family in a multicultural home in northern Utah; her mother was from Argentina, and her father was from the United States. At a young age, she went through childhood sexual assault that she never disclosed, having to deal with the severe mental health ramifications on her own, until the effects of trauma were too much to bear and she sought help. In seeking help, she was connected to a therapist who would abuse and harm her—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically—for nine years. When she courageously left that relationship and sought justice through the criminal and licensing systems, she had no idea what an uphill battle it would be.
Mia now chooses to share her story in hopes of educating others on the dangers of therapy abuse. Many therapists who lose their licenses turn to life coaching and Mia would like to use her story and platform to make change legislatively and culturally. She also wants victims and survivors to know that their stories don’t have to end in their abuse or harm, that they are not alone, and they have strength within themselves on which to rely.
Mia resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband. She is a social worker focused on case management and crisis work, and in her free time is writing a memoir.
